Hola! Hello!

I'm Jahel (the h is silent), a Venezuelan documentary art photographer based in Barcelona. My main interest is people. I love connecting, observing and making portraits of those who make my heart beat faster.

I'm constantly exploring identity through personal projects that depict my journey through the Latin American diaspora. In my practice, I seek to decolonise the image-making process, understanding the power of the camera as a tool. As a feminist women, I am engaged in collective actions, approaching it from mixed arts. The place that I occupy in my community nourishes the way I focus on the stories I wish to tell.

I also develop projects in the territory now known as Latin America, with a special focus in female identity. The main one now being developed in Mexico. I have been growing magic relationships that lead me to create portraits.

Sometimes I am also shooting in film sets, making stills images. I have been doing a lot at Erika Lust Films also as a creative producer.
